Counselling

My primary knowledge base is in trauma work, incorporating attachment information as your relationship style, enabling you to explore trust and find predictability, safety and reliability after relationship trauma. Most of my client base are folks with a long history of child and adult trauma in relationships.

My credential as a therapist is Master of Social Work (MSW) and I’m registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). My registration number is #775989 and I can be covered by most private insurance.

Many people have lived and/or worked in environments in which they experienced abuse and oppression. I will validate your experience and help you discover what’s needed for your healing and more about your path ahead. I use an anti-racism/anti oppression lens in all my work.

I believe in helping you find your inner strengths, perhaps unrecognized. I am trained in Attachment Informed EMDR from the Laurel Parnell Institute, which is a practice to help you process traumatic memories. I also draw from other tools including dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and somatic (body) work, feminist therapy, expressive arts, and some land based methodologies. In doing trauma work, I will support you to develop your own tools to address the impacts you have and to find your healing journey.

Consultation

I have worked in clinical consultation within the trauma field for many years and have supervised many students from multiple backgrounds, including social work, psychotherapy, occupational therapy, social service work and counselling.

My practice involves critical analysis of power and oppression, validating experiences of systemic violence, advocacy and activism toward eliminating systems of oppression, and supporting self-reflection, capacity building in communities and peer-support. I value cultural humility and honouring diversity of experiences based on social, cultural, and political contexts and challenging exploitation in working relationships.

I provide individual and group consultation online. The group meets monthly for two hours and is generally made up of social workers and psychotherapists practicing in trauma related practices with survivors of sexual violence, child abuse, and partner violence, as well as other mental health impacts. I seek to provide a safe and accountable space to enable your deepest reflection.

We will work together in a person centred way, incorporating the intersections of identity and community experienced by our clients; we explore professional dilemmas, examine systemic oppressions, find avenues for advocacy and allyship, seek clarity about reporting, share training opportunities and discuss organizational barriers as well.

If you are newly working in private practice the group is an opportunity to share your successes as well as dilemmas monthly – private work can be isolating for therapists.

Training and Strategic Planning

I am able to provide training on multiple topics, including working with complex trauma, understanding rape culture and gender-based violence, and beginning decolonization work for mainstream organizations. I’m also able to assist with strategic planning for non-profit organizations who wish to develop an anti-racist/anti-oppression focus.

I am open to negotiation based on your needs.
